How to Create a PDF Portfolio from Photos

March 19, 2025 · FreePDFNest Team

A PDF portfolio is the standard format for showcasing creative work — photography, graphic design, architecture, interior design, or any visual field. Here's how to create one for free.

Step 1: Prepare Your Images

Select your best work (quality over quantity). Rename files in the order you want them to appear: 01-hero-shot.jpg, 02-landscape.jpg, etc. Ensure images are high resolution — at least 2000px on the longest side for print quality.

Step 2: Convert to PDF

Go to FreePDFNest Image to PDF, upload all your images, and select page size. Choose "Fit to Image" to maintain your photos' original aspect ratios, or "A4" for a standard document format.

Step 3: Add a Cover Page

Create a simple cover page in any design tool (Canva, Google Slides, even PowerPoint) with your name, title, and contact info. Export as PDF, then use Merge PDF to put the cover page first, followed by your photo portfolio.

Step 4: Add Page Numbers

Use Page Numbers to add professional numbering. Skip the cover page by setting the starting number to 0 or 2.

Step 5: Optimize for Sharing

If the portfolio is large (common with high-res photos), use Compress PDF at Low or Medium compression. This reduces file size for emailing while maintaining print-quality images.

Final Result

A clean, professional portfolio PDF with cover page, numbered pages, and optimized file size — ready to send to clients, galleries, or potential employers.
