How to Annotate PDF for Document Review and Feedback

May 23, 2025 · FreePDFNest Team

Document review is one of the most common uses for PDF annotation. Whether you're reviewing a contract, providing feedback on a design, or marking up a student's paper, annotations communicate exactly what needs attention.

Annotation Tools for Review

Highlight: Draw attention to specific passages — use yellow for important, red for issues.

Text: Add comments next to specific sections explaining what needs to change.

Sticky notes: Add detailed feedback without cluttering the document visually.

Rectangles/circles: Circle or box areas that need attention.

Drawing: Sketch corrections, arrows, or visual annotations.

Review Workflow

1. Open the document in Annotate PDF.

2. Navigate to each page and add your annotations.

3. Use different colors for different types of feedback (red for must-fix, yellow for suggestions, green for approved sections).

4. Save the annotated PDF.

5. Send it back to the author with all your markup embedded.
